4 March, 2008 I am way too delirious and thrilled to give you this next piece of news in my own words, so I figure it is best to let the notification email speak for itself:
“Dear Daniel,
I am very pleased to inform you that your film “Missive” has been selected to screen in this year’s St Kilda Film Festival. We received close to 700 hundred entries this year and your film will screen as part of the Top 100.
The 2008 St Kilda Film Festival will run early this year, from 6 May through to 11 May and will see opening night at the Palais Theatre. The program will also include the SoundKILDA music video competition, International Programs, Industry Market Day and various forums. You will be notified of your screening date and time closer to the festival.”
We are all in total shock that Missive has been selected for the 25th Annual St. Kilda Film Festival which is basically the Academy Awards of short film festivals in Australia. Ironically both the festival and I celebrate our 25th birthdays within two days of one another. It is a huge honour and we are all speechless. To be in the same company as some amazing films and filmmakers (past and present) including various Academy Award winning and nominated short films that played at the festival in the past, is nothing short of amazing.
WOW!!!
28 November, 2007 Missive screened last night as part of the Angry Film Networking Night at Hoarse Bazaar in the City. Missive screened successfully overall, albeit in black and white due to a projector malfunction which we all found pretty humourous. The film screened alongside Paul Dowie’s black and white short Caffeine (which thankfully wasn’t affected by the monochrome projection) and the mockumentary Box Wars which was produced by none other than Tom Vogel who deserves a big thanks for making these networking nights a huge success.
2 October, 2007 Missive is a finalist in Electric Shorts which is part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival and will screen on Wednesday 10th October 2007 at LOOP, 23 Meyers Place, Melbourne at 7:30pm. Entry is free so we hope to see you there.
31 September, 2007 I just received advanced word from Art Ettinger that Missive has received a capsule review in Issue 9 of Ultra Violent Magazine in the USA under the section Independent Roll Call 2007. I’m a past contributor to Ultra Violent which I believe is the greatest magazine celebrating violent and exploitation cinema on the planet. UV Magazine is available in Borders stores across America along with other good retailers or order online at www.uvmagazine.com.
14th March, 2007 Missive picked up an Honourable Mention for Best Screenplay award at The 5th Angry Film Festival last night. The film was received brilliantly and was met with a huge round of applause and was the only film to receive whistles as well. The jury also gave awards to The Removalist (Best Screenplay); Whiskey Bar (Best Director); Ron the Zookeeper (Best Film) and Domestic (Honourable Mention for Best Directing). A great night indeed which showed some positive signs for the film. Pictured below is Me with festival director Tom Vogel and that lovable Greek joker Greg Pakis.
2nd March, 2007 Missive was just accepted as one of 14 finalists into the Angry Film Festival from over 70 entries. For details on attending the film festival visit the official site at www.angryproductions.org. In other news, Missive director Adam Stolfo has just launched his new personal website where you can find information on all his films as well watch clips from some of his old movies. You can visit Adam at www.adamstolfo.com. If you’ve seen the film, feel free to vote and comment on Missive on IMDb. Stay tuned for more Missive updates.
14th January, 2007 Last night was the official world premiere of Missive at the Kaleide Theatre in Melbourne. Adam and I compared the event to a mammoth crowd of cast, crew, family and close friends. The film was well received with some people going so far as to say it is the best short film they had ever seen. Missive was accompanied by five other short films: It Feels Great (2006), Park Life (2007), Creative Violence (2003), The Dawn of Man (2007) and Unknown Combo (2007). It was a wild night with many laughs and many drinks and I even asked two of my heroes Shannon Young and Paul Moder (Razor Eaters) along and it was great to have them there. A big thanks to everyone who worked on Missive as well as everyone who helped out last night. The feedback was encouraging. And sorry to those who I didn’t get around to talking in depth to, I will aim to catch up on that in the coming weeks. Finally after writing the script over a year and a half ago to nine months of production it was great to finally unveil the film and put it to bed.
27th October, 2006 We have now officially signed a composer for the film. The precocious and very gifted Paul Houseman from Finland will be composing the score for Missive. After seeing his work in the Australian short film Snap at last year’s MUFF, we thought he would be great for our film. After looking at various composers who were all great, we felt that Paul exceeded even the highest level of brilliance. Hollywood ought to snap this guy up ...he is truly amazing and it is our pleasure to have him working on this film.
20th September, 2006 I would like to announce the official site for Missive. This is the first website I have ever made and I learnt as I went, so excuse any shoddy workmanship. The site will be undergoing slight tweaking over its initial time online to iron out any minor problems. I’ll be maintaining the site and updating it regularly. If you want to know everything about the film this is the place to visit. There will also be news updates on people involved with the film as well. Check the film’s progress here.
